Classic fun. Gift as request. Ah, the Sims. You're doubtless quite familiar with the Sims as a premise. Basically you create and control people. You run every aspect of their lives. You make them do their bidding, and if that means building a house full of nothing but wooden furniture and fireplaces, then by gum, you can do that! It took everything that was good about the original and basically set it to eleven, while toning down a lot that wasn't so great you don't have to micromanage your Sims nearly as much.
With this game you get a whole new set of bells and whistles, including a 3D enviroment, Sims that actually age and will eventually die of old age provided you aren't the sort who tells them to go swimming and then deletes the ladder so they can't leave the pool.
It can be kind of overwhelming at first, but if you start out small the game will guide you, and you'll soon be running people's lives just like that one aunt you have who thinks she knows exactly how everyone should do things and loves to tell you, at length, about how you're messing up your life!
This pack includes the original game, the "Nightlife" expansion pack, which adds dating, a new area for the Sims to visit and vampires! You also get the "Celebration Stuff" pack, which gives you a lot more new stuff to use to decorate your Sims homes for the holidays! It's a pretty complete package, but you'll probably also want to pick up The Sims 2 University Expansion Pack , which adds another set of places to go, things to do, and a whole new life-stage young adult.
I can't say enough good about this game, and the only real flaw is that, as I alluded to, you'll lose your social life. But you'll have your Sims, and that will at least somewhat make up for it! I have been a Simmer for almost two years now.
I have both The Sims 3 and 4 through Origin. I have heard a bunch of good things about The Sims 2. So I purchased the Double Deluxe version which was used and from a good seller along with the Best of Business collection. Now before you ask, "Why does this review have 4 stars instead of 5? The installation process for me was easy, although I did have a scare where I thought that it wouldn't install.
Turns out, you have to click the top popup to proceed with the installation. This version installed in about 15 minutes with no difficulties. The game was able to get past the CAS loading screen and in game, I ran into a problem where all Sims had a shadow underneath them. Just turn down the "shadows" setting. Now here comes the part of the review where I said that there are bugs. I have run into multiple glitches in Build Mode when I place an item down or build a wall.
The graphics will go a bit weird for a few seconds, but it isn't game-breaking. I also had a bug where two Sims wouldn't get out of their bed! I had to use resetSim to fix them. Overall, The Sims 2 is a great game, but has minor bugs that aren't game-breaking. I recently got back into the Sims 2 one day, and have been playing it straight for almost a week now.
Anyone who has played the game knows why it's so addicting, while those who haven't probably don't see what's so special about it. You control your Sims lives, from birth till the urn, trying to fufill their goals and dreams, while also keeping track of their daily needs-eating, pooping, sleeping, conversing, and everything else. Sometimes it can be a lot of fun, and sometimes it can be a challenge. But no matter what happens after I leave my computer, I always want to go back.
Though the game is great, I do have my annoyances against it at times. My first time ever making a Sim try for a baby, she had twin boys, which is pretty awesome. One child began failing school though, and the Social Worker came and took BOTH the boys, even though the other boy was doing great in school. Luckily, I hadn't saved my game yet, so I was able to go back and get the boy's grades up.
The Sims have been known for having trouble getting past objects, other Sims, etc. It's like they just aren't very smart at all, and can't fend for themselves. Get this game, as long as you are okay with having most of your time sucked up by it The game is great once installed but the instructions were lacking here. It kept asking to insert disk 1 and it was already in the drive. After much online searching I figured it out. This is very important. All 3 features are on one disk installed together, this is not an upgrade.
Next issue was not being able to read past certain files on the disk. I solved this by disabling all the antivirus real time protection and scanning. The install then proceeded very slowly but it worked. The instructions tell you to back up your old games which is a good idea. You will lose all your old games after you install this, along with any downloads you have done for game mods, skins and items to buy. On the bright side the game has some really good new features that you will enjoy.
If you copy your downloads from your Sims 2 download folder to your Sims 3 double deluxe downloads folder they should work despite the warnings. Just be careful if you have the inteenimator. The version for Nightlife which is bundled in this install, is different than the one that works with the base game, so do not copy this one.
If you never heard of or downloaded the inteenimator then don't worry about this. I recommend buying this game for the new features but you have to have patience and be able to forego your old games.
